Jon Johnson is a proven leader with legislative experience in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate. He is the first African American in the history of New Orleans to serve in both Houses of the Louisiana Legislature and the first African American in the history of Louisiana to chair the powerful Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee. He also served as the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee for the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus. While serving on the New Orleans City Council, Jon served as the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee. His legislative leadership
earned him the recognition as Legislator of the Year by the Alliance for Good Government, the Louisiana Association of Educators, Victims and Citizens Against Crime, and the Louisiana Municipal Association. For 30 years Jon served as an assistant professor in the College of Business at Southern University at New Orleans. He is also the recipient of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Martin Luther King Legislative Award. His legislative clout brought over $185 million in projects and programs to District E and the City of New Orleans.
